Talk 'N Text hires Courtney Fells to replace import Tony Mitchell
Scoring was never the problem for former Talk ‘N Text import Tony Mitchell.
But despite his prolific offensive output, the Tropang Texters have lost three straight games and are on the verge of elimination in the Governors’ Cup. Talk ‘N Text decided to replace Mitchell with former North Carolina State wingman Courtney Fells.
The team is hoping their new import can provide a better effort on the defensive end, with the Tropang Texters down to their last two games in the tournament.
“He’s been known as a tough defender since his college days at North Carolina State. The defensive end is where we’ve struggled this conference so he’ll be a big help for us,” Talk ‘N Text team captain Jimmy Alapag wrote in a text message to InterAKTV.
Coming out of college, Fells was described as a “solid defender” by NBA scouting website Draft Express, which noted that he can also get the job done on the perimeter.
“Fells’s best asset is his sweet outside shooting stroke,” wrote Matt Kamalsky, who decribed the incoming import as a “gifted catch and shoot player with good range and a smooth release.”
He is coming off a stint in the Boston Celtics summer league team after spending the past year in Israel.
Fells arrived last Sunday and has impressed Talk ‘N Text in practice.
“He looks to be in good shape,” added Alapag. “He’s coming into a tough situation considering our place in the standings, but we’re hoping he’ll be a big help for us.”
Talk ‘N Text coach Norman Black sees Fells fitting in with his team.
“He’s a good defender and displays leadership skills,” said Black.
