Jeffrey Cariaso can end Barangay Ginebra's title drought, says Tenorio
If things continue to go well for Barangay Ginebra, the Gin Kings will see their first title win in 6 years. And LA Tenorio believes it will happen because of their coach Jeffrey Cariaso.
Before the PBA Governors’ Cup began, the team management decided to change coaches yet again by bringing in retired player and former San Mig Coffee assistant coach Cariaso.
This time, Tenorio believes, the management made the right choice.
“I believe he (Cariaso) can bring us to a championship eventually. It’s just a matter of time lang talaga,” Tenorio, a former team mate of Cariaso in Alaska, told Spin’s Richard Dy.
Cariaso introduced the triangle offense to the talent-laden team. The Kings responded well by scoring four victories in five starts to share the lead at the standings with sister team San Mig Coffee and perennial contender Talk ‘N Text.
Their lone defeat came at the hands of the Mixers, who is mentored by Cariaso’s former boss, Tim Cone.
The last time Ginebra won a title was in the 2008 Fiesta Conference, when coach Jong Uichico led the Kings past the old Air21 Express in the finals.
Tenorio said the time is ripe for the fabled team to be a champion again.
“I think it’s a perfect time na kami nahawakan niya, since mga bata rin itong hawak niya na players while he’s starting to build his own name and character as a coach,” said the former Ateneo Eagle.
