UAAP: Karim Abdul blasts UST Tigers after loss to FEU Tamaraws
University of Santo Tomas (UST) center Karim Abdul again expressed his frustration at his teammates following another defeat, this time at the hands of the Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws.
After they were beaten by FEU 66-55, the Cameroonian Abdul expressed his disappointment in Filipino, saying, repeatedly, "Wala tayong pride."
"Ano sasabihin ko? Wala tayong pride. 'Yun lang. Wala tayong pride," said Abdul, who had 24 points and 16 rebounds in another losing effort for UST, who now have a 4-5 record in the UAAP Season 77 tournament.
"Malungkot ako, grabe," he added. "Hindi ko alam kung ano 'yung future natin this year. Malungkot talaga ako."
It is not the first time that Abdul has aired out his frustration after a UST loss. He memorably called out his teammates earlier in the season only to publicly apologize later.
This time, Abdul showed his frustration not only off the court but on it, as he was called for an unsportsmanlike foul when he elbowed FEU's Reeve Ungsang in the head.
"I was frustrated. I did it out of frustration," Abdul admitted after the game.
With the loss to FEU, the Growling Tigers remain in a tie for fifth and sixth places along with the University of the East Red Warriors, with identical 4-5 records. Abdul acknowledged that their fate in the tournament is no longer in their hands.
"We're just gonna count on gambling on the other teams," he said. "Our fate is really in the hands of God, and not in our hands."
"I wanted that we should determine our destiny, and not that others should determine our destiny," he added.
