Robert Jaworski on coaching Gilas Pilipinas: "Why not?"

“The Living Legend” Robert Jaworski is not closing his doors on the possibility of coaching the Philippine national men’s basketball team.
Robert Jaworski on coaching of Gilas Pilipinas: "Why not?"
“It’s gonna be a tough job but I think taking a serious look at it is not a bad idea,” Jaworski said when asked by reporters during a charity game headlined by Allen Iverson on Wednesday night. “Because it’s a calling pero ‘wag nating pangunahan ‘yan.

“My gosh, it’s a great honor if it will happen, pero yung sinasabi niyo lang e nasarapan na ako.”

Coaching the national team isn’t a new thing for Jaworski, who once steered the country to a silver medal finish in the 1990 Asian Games — the first time PBA players represented the country in an international competition.

He also played for the country in the 1968 Mexico Olympics and in the 1974 FIBA World Championship before becoming one of the most beloved players in the PBA.

The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas is currently making a “reassessment” of the Gilas Pilipinas program, with search committees for potential new coaches and players for the national team set to be formed.

Apart from being a possible coach, Jaworski said that he is also willing to participate behind the scenes for the improvement of the national team.

“Why not? Anytime, tatapikin lang ako” he said.
