Philippine oil firm to start drilling at disputed Recto Bank next year

MANILA - Philippine oil firm said Thursday it would start drilling next year at a potentially massive natural gas field at a reef in the South China Sea also claimed by China.

The drilling of "two appraisal wells" at Reed Bank - also called Recto Bank - will be carried out by August 2013, said Philex Petroleum chairman Manuel Pangilinan.

"We need to do a lot before we know the amount of resources beneath those waters," he told stockholders.

His comments come amid high tension with China over territorial disputes in the South China Sea, with Manila and Beijing locked in a standoff over the Scarborough Shoal.

Philex Petroleum said last month the field at Reed Bank could hold 4.66 trillion cubic feet (TCF) of gas, nearly twice as much as the Philippines' largest known deposits.

China claims almost all of the South China Sea, including the Reed Bank, which is about 148 kilometres (92 miles) off the Philippine island of Palawan and which the Philippines claims as its territory.

Last year the Philippines accused Chinese vessels of harassing an exploration vessel off Reed Bank, and Manila has repeatedly accused China of aggressive actions in disputed waters.

Pangilinan also said he met with officials of China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) in Beijing recently to discuss their offer to jointly develop the Reed Bank field.

But he said that other big companies had also approached Philex, adding that his firm would need the help of a major oil company as a partner to develop the Reed Bank.

Jessica Sanchez & Phillip Phillips Made It to American Idol 11 Finale

16-years old Jessica Sanchez and 21-years old Phillip Phillips made it to the American Idol 11 Finale which will be held on May 22, 2012 (May 23: Manila Time).

I was happy and a bit shocked this morning when I heard the news.

Happy because Jessica who also has Filipino descent reached the show finale and vying for the Idol Title. (feel so proud that Filipino blood is also running in my veins). :)

Shocked because Idol Judges Favorite and Front-runner Joshua Ledet has been voted off in the American Idol Season 11. I don't like Joshua but yesterday I predicted that it's Phillip who will be eliminated, which I based it on their performance last night. [watch/read here]

Well, Phillip should feel so lucky tonight because it's not him that bids goodbye. Congrats Jessica and Phillip!

Phillip Phillips & Joshua Ledet Performances on American Idol 11 Top 3 Show

Beggin' - Phillip Phillips

Phillip Phillips sang  “Beggin” by Madcon on the American Idol 11 Top 3 show. He also performed “Disease” by Matchbox 20 and “We’ve Got Tonight” by Bob Seger.

Imagine - Joshua Ledet

Joshua Ledet sang “Imagine” by John Lennon on the American Idol 11 Top 3 show. He also sing “I’d Rather Go Blind” by Etta James and “No More Drama” by Mary J. Blige.

My Prediction.
Based on their performances tonight, I think there's no more reason for Phillip Phillips to stay longer on the competition. Yeah, it's given that he is a good singer, great guitarist and charming - a total package I must say, but , I think, his performance tonight is not enough for him to stay and go to the finals.

"My All" - Jessica Sanchez on American Idol 11 Top 3 Show

Jessica Sanchez performed Mariah Carey's song, "My All" during the American Idol Top 3 Performance Show

I must say, Jessica really sounds like Mariah. Great song choice for her! And If you will ask me, This performance of her is my favorite. It edge out her "I Don't Want A Miss A Things" [watch here] and "Ill Be There" performances tonight.

 Judges Thoughts:

Randy Jackson said “Yo, I mean, that was absolutely beautiful. We tell people never to do Mariah, but I’m tellin’ you what, that was one of the best Mariah songs sung on TV.”

Steven Tyler said “When you sing, you make people hang on your every note. I hope you get used to encores.”

Jennifer Lopez said “Hard song. You did it so beautifully and you did it in your own way.”

"I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" - Jessica Sanchez on American Idol 11 Top 3 Show

I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing - Jessica Sanchez

Jessica Sanchez sang “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing” by Aerosmith during the American Idol 11 Top 3 performance show.

I really love Jessica but I don't like this performance of her. The beginning was boring. Albeit she made a moment in the end, that's not enough I think.

I'll Be There - Jessica Sanchez
Jessica's last song for American Idol 11 Top 3 performance show is a Jackson 5 classic, "I'll Be There". It was good not great but not bad atleast for my taste! :)

Support Jessica Sanchez.

Denver Nuggets Center JaVale McGee to be naturalize for Smart-Gilas Pilipinas

If China Basketball Team features NBA player Yi Jianlian and Former Memphis Grizzlies Center Hamed Haddadi plays for Iran Basketball team, Smart-Gilas Pilipinas Basketball Team plans to get the service of 7-foot NBA Center JaVale McGee

McGee needs to undergo naturalization process which would make him a Filipino Citizen and make him play eligibly for Smart-Gilas Pilipinas... the naturalization process will soon be start as a bill is already filed in the House of Representatives. Yahoo!

Interaksyon News Report:

A bill has been filed in the House of Representatives to naturalize Denver Nuggets center JaVale McGee to make him eligible for the SMART-Gilas Pilipinas National team.

Antipolo City representative Robbie Puno filed House Bill 6169, which would make McGee a Filipino citizen. Puno, in his bill’s cover letter, cited McGee’s “remarkable track record in the United States’ professional basketball scene” as consideration for his inclusion in the SMART-Gilas program.

McGee, who came over to the Philippines twice last year during the NBA lockout, has expressed interest in playing for the country.

“Just heard from [SMART-Gilas] Coach Chot [Reyes] that the Philippine national team is about to be formed. Would love to represent the Philippines if given the chance,” wrote McGee on his Twitter account last January.
