15 countries submit applications for 2014 FIBA World Cup wildcards
Fifteen national teams from across four FIBA zones met the 30 October deadline to submit their applications for the four wild cards that will complete the line-up for the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
The 15 applicants are national teams that participated in their respective 2013 continental championships which are qualifying tournament for FIBA's flagship event in Spain next year (30 August-14 September 2014).
They are:
Africa (1) - Nigeria
Americas (3) - Brazil, Canada and Venezuela
Asia (2) - China and Qatar
Europe (9) - Bosnia and Herzegovina, Finland, Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, Poland, Russiaand Turkey
FIBA will reveal which countries will receive the four wild cards at its Central Board meeting on the weekend of 1-2 February 2014 in Barcelona, Spain. The draw for the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup will then take place the following day, Monday 3 February 2014.
No more than three national teams from one FIBA Zone can receive the wild cards.
FIBA's Central Board could decide to shorten the list of candidates bidding for the four wild cards at its next meeting in Buenos Aires, Argentina on the weekend of 23-24 November 2013.

Brandon Rios says Manny Pacquiao can't take a good punch
Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao’s knockout at the hands of Mexican rival Juan Manuel Marquez showed that the “Pacman” has difficulty in taking a good shot, according to his next opponent, Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios.
Pacquiao was famously knocked out by Marquez with one second to go in the sixth round of their fourth encounter last December 2012, and was out cold on the canvas for a few seconds.

PBA teams to go 'BIG' on Rookie Draft Day
There is growing consensus among PBA teams that big men will be high in the coming PBA rookie draft, making Greg Slaughter, Ian Sangalang and Raymond Almazan the top three picks in the event set Sunday at Robinsons Place Manila.

Pro league officials, who have completed their annual summit at The Westin Hotel here, appeared keen on enlisting big men during draft day.

Rain or Shine denies trading Beau Belga to San Mig Coffee
Rain or Shine team governor Atty. Mert Mondragon vehemently denied rumors circulating that they already have the second pick after trading Beau Belga and their third pick to San Mig Coffee Mixers.
“No, that’s not true. We just signed Beau to a contract renewal last Tuesday,” said Mondragon in an interview with Solar Sports Desk in Sydney, Australia.
The soft-spoken official likewise hinted that they will exercise their third pick right, hoping to get the big man they have long lacked in their roster.

Barako trades Emman Monfort to Ginebra; acquires of Rob Labagala
Barangay Ginebra San Miguel and Barako Bull Energy Cola exchanged point guards, early Thursday morning, in a trade approved by the PBA Commissioner's Office.

“The proposed trade between Ginebra's Rob Labagala and Barako Bull's Eman Monfort has been approved by the PBA,” read the official statement from the league.
