Juan Manuel Marquez Wants Non-Nevada Judges In Pacquiao Fight

MANILA, Philippines – Mexican boxer Juan Manuel Marquez will request for judges that are not affiliated with the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) when he takes on rival Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao of the Philippines on December 8.

The two boxers will face off for a fourth time, with the bout being held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

“I will request that the judges for this fight will be composed of one Mexican judge, one Filipino judge and one neutral judge,” Marquez told Boxing Scene.

“This time, I don’t want the judges to be appointed by the Nevada Athletic Commission, who normally appoint three Americans from their staff,” he added.

All of Marquez and Pacquiao’s bouts have ended in controversy. Their most recent bout, held last November 2011 at the MGM Grand, was won by Pacquiao via majority decision, but many members of the boxing media felt Marquez had done enough to win.

“I do not know if my request will be processed, but I’m going to make it,” Marquez said. “If they don’t, then I’m going to fight as I did in my three previous fights, before judges appointed by Nevada.”

Marquez said he is hopeful that his time, his “victory is not taken away.”

“They have done this to me already only three occasions,” he said, referring to his first three fights against Pacquiao.

But Marquez notes that the Nevada judges may be more careful the fourth time around.

“I do not think that it will happen again. I am sure that on this occasion, they are going to work with a little bit of fear, and they will give victory to whoever deserves it,” he said,

Marquez rallied from three knockdowns to salvage a draw when he first fought Pacquiao in 2004, but lost their 2008 rematch via split decision.
