WBO persuades Marquez to take 5th Pacquiao fight

The World Boxing Organization (WBO) admitted that it has taken steps to set up a fifth fight between Manny Pacquiao and his Mexican rival Juan Manuel Marquez.

No less than its Puerto Rican president, Francicso “Paco” Varcarcel, flew to Mexico to convince Marquez in accepting the fifth bout, according to Boxing Scene.

The WBO president, however, went home empty handed as the Mexican counter puncher refused to back from his stand not to fight Pacquiao again.

It Pacquiao's first fight since getting knocked out in the sixth round of last December's fourth bout with Marquez.

Juan Manuel Marquez wants rematch vs Bradley, not Pacquiao

Juan Manuel Marquez claimed he was robbed of victory in his recent WBO welterweight title clash with Timothy Bradley.

The Mexican fighter said he wants to fight Bradley again to set things right.

"I'm sad for what happened in my last fight, because I needed to win. I was more focused and stronger, but as I look to the future....what motivates me is a rematch with Bradley,” Marquez said in a Boxing Scene report by Rene Umanzor.

Juan Manuel Marquez to retire after fall to Timothy Bradley

Mexican boxing legend Juan Manuel Marquez is considering retirement after his loss to Timothy Bradley in Las Vegas last Saturday (Sunday in Manila).

Marquez was hoping to become the first Mexican boxer to win world titles in five different weight classes when he agreed to the bout that featured the last two fighters to beat Filipino ring hero Manny Pacquiao.

But to the jeers of a pro-Marquez crowd at the Thomas and Mack Center, two judges awarded the bout to Bradley, 116-112 and 115-113, while the third judge saw it 115-113 for Marquez.

Timothy Bradley seeks to retire Juan Manuel Marquez

Unbeaten American boxer Timothy Bradley Jr. said his deep resolve and desire to win will be his advantages when he takes on Mexican legend Juan Manuel Marquez in a welterweight showdown on October 12.

In his training blog for HBO, Bradley said these are the qualities that will help him in his mission to “retire the great Juan Manuel Marquez.”.

“I definitely agree that my will and determination is something which differentiates me from other fighters,” said Bradley. “I may not be the most skilled or most loved fighter, but I am a warrior and that cannot be taken from me.”

Contrary to his earlier statements, Juan Manuel Marquez said he'd consider fighting Manny Pacquiao again.

But Marquez will only approve a fifth clash on one condition: that it will be staged in Mexico.

Juan Manuel Marquez, Timothy Bradley lose millions for snubbing Manny Pacquiao

Both Juan Manuel Marquez and Timothy Bradley will be missing a huge payday for snubbing Manny Pacquiao, according to the Filipino’s business adviser Michael Koncz.


Koncz told Boxing Scene that Marquez was offered $13 million for a fifth fight with the Filipino superstar, while Bradley got a $6-million proposal. However, both fighters snubbed the offers by going after each other instead.

"I don't even want to speculate. I gave Bradley and Marquez the opportunity to fight [Pacquiao right] now,” Koncz said.

MANILA, Philippines – Eight-division world champion Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao is not concerned about reports that his Mexican rival Juan Manuel Marquez is looking more and more muscular as their December 8 fight date draws nearer.


Various reports from Marquez’s training camp in Mexico City say the boxer has bulked up even more as he prepares for his fourth fight against Pacquiao.
