Sen. Franklin Drilon elected as Senate President

Senator Franklin Drilon has been elected as the Senate President having 17 senators voted in favor of him while only 6 senators voted in favor of Senator Juan Ponce Enrile. With that, Sen. Enrile automatically becomes the Senate Minority Leader after gaining 2nd highest votes for Senate President.

The 17 Senators who voted for Sen. Franklin Drilon are: Senators Juan Edgardo Angara, Bam Aquino, Loren Legarda, Francis Escudero, Alan Peter Cayetano, Cynthia Villar, Aquilino Pimentel III, Antonio Trillanes IV, Grace Poe, Pia Cayetano, Ralph Recto, Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Teofisto Guingona III, Sergio Osmena III, Lito Lapid, Bong Revilla and Juan Ponce Enrile.


On the other hand, the 6 Senators who voted for Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile are: Senators Gregorio Honasan, Jinggoy Estrada, Vicente Sotto III, Nancy Binay, JV Ejercito and Franklin Drilon.

Meanwhile, Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano is elected as Senate Majority Leader of 16th Congress and Sen. Ralph Recto is elected as Senate President Pro-Tempore.

Only Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago was absent during the opening session of the 16th Congress.
