Jeff Chan says Gilas Pilipinas can beat China
Shooting guard Jeff Chan is confident the Philippine basketball team collectively known as Gilas Pilipinas can defeat any team, specifically China, in the ongoing FIBA-Asia Championship.
According to Chan, all they need is to have faith in one another knowing that they have prepared well in order to achieve whatever goal they have in mind for this tournament.
“Actually lahat naman beatable. As long as maglaro kami as one team and syempre yung crowd nandiyan. We have a chance. Magagaling coaches natin and magagaling scouting report nila,” said Chan moments after their 80-70 win over Qatar.
Though they still have to play Hong Kong for their final assignment Wednesday night, National team head coach Chot Reyes foresees a duel with bitter Asian rival China in the knockout phase.
“Pending a miracle I guess we just arranged a date against China in the quarterfinals. We are fully aware of this. If it happens that we play China in the quarterfinals then so be it,” said Reyes.
A quarterfinal knockout battle against China will happen if the Philippines ends up at second place in Group E while China finishes third in Group F.
Reyes is also confident they have a good chance against China if they play the way they performed against Qatar Tuesday night.
“We just have to find a way and come out and play a game like this to have a chance,” said Reyes.
