Brandon Rios on Manny Pacquiao: He picked the wrong opponent
The camp of Brandon Rios believes that the reign of Filipino boxing king Manny Pacquiao is over.
“Manny Pacquiao has had tremendous wins but it all comes to an end,” Rios’ coach Robert Garcia told ABS-CBN News’ Dyan Castillejo in Macau. “We feel Manny's time has come.”
“This is the last time you're going to see Manny Pacquiao in a pay per view fight because we're going to beat him,” Garcia boasted.
The Mexican-American boxer has been in Macau for two weeks before his much-awaited clash with the “Pacman” this weekend at the Venetian. His early arrival will also help him acclimatize and adjust to the new time zone.
This weekend’s fight is a big deal for Rios, whose face can be seen in giant billboards and numerous posters in the former Portuguese colony that’s been touted as the Las Vegas of Asia.
Castillejo noted that this is the first time Rios is getting such a massive promotion and while the young boxer was initially emotional about the crucial fight, he is now pumped up.
The morale in his camp is on a high, as they are optimistic that their preparation is enough to ensure a victory over the Filipino superstar. Even before flying to Macau, Rios trained for five months in the US.
Rios said Pacquiao will regret having chosen him as his opponent. The Filipino suffered two straight losses, including a knockout loss to rival Juan Manuel Marquez.
“He picked the wrong opponent. I’m not a tune-up fight, I’m young, I’m ready and I want that success,” Rios told Castillejo.
“I’m actually listening to my corner, following instructions,” he added, referring to Garcia, as well as strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza, who used to work for Pacquiao.
”I feel very strong and lots of energy,” Rios proclaimed.
