Manny Pacquiao: Let's forget about Floyd Mayweathef fight

It seems Filipino boxing champ Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao is ready to give up hopes that a potential super fight with pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. can still happen, telling his fans and supporters to forget about it.

Speaking on SCOOP Sa Kamayan On Air, Pacquiao lamented about the numerous conditions set by Mayweather for their fight.

“He’s been asking for so many conditions, which we have expressed intentions to abide by like drug testing, purse split and everything,” said Pacquiao, as quoted by PhilBoxing. “Now he wants me to separate myself from my promoter, which I cannot possibly do without violating my contract.”

Mayweather recently said in an interview with boxing website Fight Hype that a mega-fight against Pacquiao will never happen for as long as the Filipino is affiliated with Top Rank Promotions and Bob Arum.

“Habang tumatagal, nagiging lalong imposible ang hinihingi niya,” Pacquiao said of the unbeaten American.

“Ayaw talaga eh. Wala na tayo sigurong magagawa,” he said. “Kalimutan na muna natin ‘yan… Kaya nga ako, kalimutan ko muna at magco-concentrate sa nalalapit na laban ko, which, in fact, has not yet been finalized.”

Although fight fans have been calling for a mega-fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather for years now, several issues continue to block the showdown.

Demand for the fight has dimmed in the last couple of years thanks in part to Pacquiao’s decline, as well as Mayweather’s brief stint in jail.

Interest in the mega-fight rose again starting December, when Pacquiao showed flashes of his peak form in a dominant performance against Brandon Rios in Macau.

A fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather has long been considered to be the richest fight that can be made in boxing, with the potential to break all pay-per-view and gate records.
