CJ Corona Impeachment Trial: Judgment Day: Guilty is the Verdict!



After 43 days of the historical Impeachment Trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona, Judgment day has now come. 23 Senators-Judges are set to vote today, May 29, 2012, if they will acquit or remove Renato Corona from the office.

CJ Corona faced Impeachment Trial because of the accusations thrown to him like (1) accused of protecting ex-President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. and (2) accused of lacking integrity and amassing a fortune way above the limits of his salary -- including $2.4 million in US dollar accounts -- as required by the constitution. - (ABS-CBN News)

For Corona to be convicted, the Prosecution needs 16 votes from the Senator-Judges. On the other hand, For Corona to be acquitted, The Defense only needs 8 votes.

Update#1: CJ Corona is now convicted for Article 2 of the Articles of Impeachment.
Update#2: Senator Enrile directs secretary of Senate to provide copy of the decision to CJ, Judicial and Bar Council, HOR and OP.
Update#3: Renato Corona is no longer the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. The President of the Philippines has 90 days to appoint a new Chief Justice.

Update#5: Corona and  Supreme Court has now received the 'Notice of Judgment by the Impeachment court', wednesday afternoon.
Update#6: Senior Justice Antonio T. Carpio, by operation of law, is now acting Chief Justice with the removal of Chief Justice Renato C. Corona as head of the Supreme Court (SC) and the entire Judiciary by the Senate sitting as impeachment court.
