The Philippine national men’s basketball team cruised past Kuwait, 110-64, to have a strong finish to its group stage campaign in the in the 2015 FIBA Asia Championship Friday at CSWC Dayun in Changsha, China.

After suffering a shocking defeat in the opening game of the 2015 FIBA Asia Championship, the Philippine national basketball team went on beast mode.

Gilas Pilipinas took out its frustration on an overmatched Hong Kong squad, 101-50, on Thursday in Changsha, China to ease some of the pain of its loss to Palestine.

The Philippines didn't give the East Asian side a chance, leading from bell to bell. Gilas scored the first 12 points of the game and never looked back.

Gilas Pilipinas coach Tab Baldwin admits shock loss in FIBA Asia opener tough to swallow

After a shock upset loss to FIBA Asia first-timers Palestine in their opening game of the 2015 edition of the tournament, Philippine national men’s basketball coach Tab Baldwin said that their performance should not be seen as an indicator of the capabilities of the Gilas Pilipinas national team but simply a misstep that must be corrected.
“This tournament is far from over. This is not a statement game of who Gilas Pilipinas is. This is a big mistake by our team, by our coaching staff, all of us,” Baldwin told reporters at the postgame press conference following his team’s 75-73 defeat at the CSWC Dayun on Wednesday.

The Los Angeles Lakers will release Filipino-American NBA player Jordan Clarkson to the Philippine national men’s basketball team for the 2015 FIBA Asia Championship later this month.

2014 FIBA Asia Cup Draw Results: Gilas Pilipinas in Group B; Iran in Group A

Reigning FIBA Asia Championship winners and defending champions Iran were drawn alongside hosts China in Group A, while Philippines and Jordan teams finishing runners-up in the last two FIBA Asia Championships were drawn in Group B as the draw for the 5th FIBA Asia Cup to be played in Wuhan (China) from July 11-19 was completed at the host city on Sunday.
East Asia’s Japan along with South Asia champions India and South East Asia’s Indonesia join Iran and China in Group A.

Philippines (Gilas Pilipinas) and Jordan will be joined by South East Asia champions Singapore, 27th FIBA Asia Championship semifinalists Chinese Taipei and Central Asia’s Uzbekistan in Group B.

Philippine Youth team sweeps SEABA Under-18; book ticket to FIBA Asia Under-18

The Philippine national youth basketball team showed no mercy in dismantling Singapore, 124-63, to sweep the 2014 Southeast Asian Under-18 basketball championship on Wednesday in Sabah, Malaysia.
The win capped the dominant run for the Filipino youngsters, who made quick work of Indonesia (98-35) and Malaysia (93-76) in their previous games.

FIBA Asia official urges PBA to move Governors' Cup for Gilas

FIBA Asia communications head S. Mageshwaran said the PBA should move the Governors’ Cup to give the national team more time to prepare and allow its best players to join Gilas Pilipinas for the FIBA Basketball World Cup.

“The third and final conference of the PBA, the Governor’s Cup, can be – and in my opinion should be – put off in support of the national team,” he wrote in a column on the FIBA Asia website.

Gilas Pilipinas has good chance against African teams

It may be safe to say that when Philippine team coach Chot Reyes spoke of his intention to win “one or two” in the FIBA Basketball World Cup next year, he wasn’t talking of defending champion United States or host Spain.


Depending on the draw, those couple of victories could come from any of the three from the 16 nations set to compete in the 2013 FIBA Africa Championship from Aug. 20-31 at the Palais des Sports de Treichville, Abidjan in the Ivory Coast.
