SingTel donates P1.7M for typhoon victims

Singapore Telecommunications Ltd. (SingTel) has donated SGD 50,000 (roughly PHP 1.75 million) to buy food and drinking water for Typhoon Yolanda victims via Globe Telecom’s corporate social responsibility program. In addition to the corporate donation, SingTel has set up staff donation drives across its operations in Singapore and Australia to raise more funds. SingTel is a major stockholder of Globe together with Ayala Corporation.

“We wish to extend our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences on the loss of thousands of lives and massive destruction to properties. Together with Globe, our regional mobile associate, we want to play a part in assisting affected Filipinos with their daily needs in the hope of helping get them back on their feet again,” said Mr Andrew Buay, SingTel’s VP of Group Corporate Social Responsibility.

NFL player carries PH flag to honor 'Yolanda' victims (VIDEO)

Seattle Seahawks receiver Doug Baldwin carried the Philippine flag onto Century Link Field on Sunday to honor the victims of super typhoon Yolanda.
According to the Seattle Times, Baldwin has family members living in the Philippines, including his grandmother.

News reports added that Baldwin’s relatives in the Philippines are okay but this didn't stop him from showing his support by carrying the country’s flag onto the field before Seattle’s win over the Minnesota Vikings.

Manny Pacquiao dedicates fight vs Rios to Yolanda victims

Filipino fight icon Manny Pacquiao is dedicating his November 24 ring comeback to victims of super typhoon “Yolanda” that ravaged the Philippines last week.

Pacquiao will face dangerous Mexican-American fighter Brandon Rios in Macau in his first fight since being knocked out by rival Juan Manuel Marquez last year.

The fighter, who also serves as congressman of Sarangani province, said his training prevented him from personally getting involved in relief efforts.

Globe service restoration in Visayas underway; Iloilo now up

Globe Telecom said on Saturday that restoration of its communication services is now underway in areas severely affected by Typhoon Yolanda.

In fact, communication services are now up in two key areas namely Iloilo and Roxas City following service disruption on Friday as the super typhoon wrought havoc in the area.

Service restoration in areas hard hit by the weather anomaly is expected within a 48-hour period, Yoly Crisanto, Globe Head of Corporate Communications, said.

Tacloban City in Leyte felt the wrath of super typhoon "Yolanda," with storm surges wiping out houses and flooding many areas in the city.
The destructive typhoon completely wiped out Barangay San Jose, a coastal village in the city, as shown in the video footage taken by ABS-CBN veteran broadcast journalist and TV Patrol anchor Ted Failon.
