Nash Racela named new head coach of FEU Tamaraws

The FEU Tamaraws have officially named Nash Racela as the head coach of the squad for the upcoming UAAP season.

Racela replaced Bert Flores, who led the Tamaraws to a 9-5 record in the elimination round of Season 75 and fell just short of the final four.

FEU is only one year removed from making back-to-back appearances in the UAAP finals.

Racela is currently an assistant coach of the Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters in the PBA and was part of the coaching staffs of both the SMART-Gilas Pilipinas national team of coach Chot Reyes and the Energen Pilipinas national youth team helmed by Racela’s brother, Petron Blaze coach Olsen Racela.

He also began the PBA season as coach of the Tropang Texters with current mentor Norman Black still tied up with the Ateneo Blue Eagles at the time. Racela also steers the Fruitas Shakers in the PBA D-League.

“Thankful and excited for the chance to coach a promising team like FEU,” Racela said about his appointment. “Not so much familiar with the team yet, but hoping we will be able to build relationships.”

The Tamaraws have a solid core of talented players on the squad like former UAAP MVP RR Garcia, former Rookie of the Year Terrence Romeo, big man Arvie Bringas and Mike Tolomia. Two-time UAAP juniors MVP Jerie Pingoy of FEU-Diliman, a member of the Energen Pilipinas squad that competed in the FIBA Asia Under-18 Championships, has also reportedly committed to join the seniors team.

Racela is expected to install a dribble-drive offense similar to the system that Talk ‘N Text ran under Reyes.

“Yes, the dribble-drive will be part of our offense,” he said.

'ALLAN IS THE MAN' SPEAKS

With this news about FEU choosing Nash Racela as their new head coach does this mean that MVP is supporting FEU Tamaraws and not the UP Basketball Squad?

So why I’ am dragging MVP’s name on this issue? well because obviously Racela is “MVP's guy” - Racela is part of Talk 'N Text coaching staff and of Smart Gilas Pilipinas team which are supported by MVP. And I don't think Racela will accept the coaching job without the blessing of the famous business tycoon.

Make sense?
