Kobe Paras receives offer from US NCAA Division I school UC Irvine

16-year-old Kobe Paras is still two years away from entering the college basketball scene but has already received an offer from US NCAA Division I school UC Irvine, according to a report.
California-based recruiting analyst Neal Nieves posted on his Twitter account that the university had expressed interest in Paras, the son of PBA legend Benjie Paras.

Paras was showcased at the Pangos Stars of the Future event in Norwalk, California on the same day of the tweet. He was identified by some in attendance as one of the standout performers due to his athleticism and ability to finish.

Filipinos, of course, are familiar with his leaping ability after he won a slam dunk contest at the FIBA Under-18 3×3 competitions last year.

His team – which also consisted of Ateneo freshmen Arvin Tolentino and Thirdy Ravena as well as De La Salle rookie Prince Rivero – were the champions of FIBA Asia Under-18 3×3 tournament as well.

The former La Salle Greenhills star moved to the US last year, to attend Cathedral High School in California, but is slated to return to the country to join the Philippine national Under-18 basketball team’s preparations for the FIBA Asia Under-18 Championships in Doha, Qatar this August.

Paras is already on the radar of some of the US mainstream media’s college recruiting sites. He is listed as a 2016 prospect on ESPN’s recruiting database, with a grade of 75 and rating three out of a possible five stars.
