Philippines will switch from Analogue TV to Digital Television.

It seems that the Philippines is ready to switch to Digital Television (DTV) from Analogue Television. As ABS-CBN, Philippines' largest TV Network, announced that they are ready to launch five new premium free-to-airs TV via DTV this year and they are just waiting for the final go-signal coming from National Telecommunications (NTC).

What is DTV and what are the benefits on switching from Analogue TV to DTV?
DTV (Digital television) is a high-tech standard that uses digital signals for broadcast. Many Countries including USA, Japan, Singapore and other European Countries already switched to DTV.

The Benefits of switching to DTV:
1. Filipinos can enjoy more free-to-air TV channels because DTV occupies lesser space in the frequency compare to the Analogue TV. And that means, a TV station can broadcast on more that one channel.
2. DTV produces better picture and sound, so the issues like poor reception, grainy images and choppy sound/audio will never be a problem anymore for viewers.

When will DTV start in the Philippines?
DTV/ DTT (Digital Terrestial Television) may start this year 2011, pagkatapos ma-i-release ng NTC ang mga implementing rules on using Digital. The release date of the rules will be on June of this year.

Sisimulan ang pag-implement ng DTT in some selected areas. Meanwhile, NTC said Analogue TV will shutdown its operation not sooner than 2015
Moreover, in able to switch or experience DTV, a household needs to purchase a DTV Digibox that cost similarly to DVD Player, so that is around Php2,000. 1 TV set = 1 DTV Digibox. So, if you have 3 TV Set in your house, you need to buy 3 DTV Digibox also.

On a personal note, I find switching to DTV is a great idea and buying DTV Digibox is reasonable, BUT can everyone afford the DTV Digibox? i don't think so, Paano yung ibang pamilya na sakto lang para sa pagkain ng kanilang mga anak ang sinasahod? and one more thing , wala na bang magagawa ang NTC or any other broadcasting companies na gawing hindi lang 1 is to 1 ang ratio ng TV Set at DTV Digibox? kasi paano kung sa isang bahay 3 ang TV Set so kailangan nilang bumili ng 3 DTV Digibox.. Ok sabihin na nating afford naman nila yun, but still... parang aksaya parin ata ng pera yun.

What do you think?
