Iran's Haddadi: "best team we played is the Philippines"
Iran won its third FIBA Asia Men's Basketball crown on Sunday night but had to face a determined Gilas Pilipinas squad in the championship game at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Iran wound up winning 85-71 but faced several tense moments, especially in the first half as Gilas, despite playing without center Marcus Douthit, managed to remain within striking distance.

Gilas Pilipinas to go all out vs Iran in FIBA Asia 2013 finals
Gilas Pilipinas has already achieved its goal of qualifying in the 2014 FIBA World Cup in Spain, but the national team is still dreaming of reaching even greater heights in the 27th FIBA Asia Basketball Championships.
Gilas outlasted rivals South Korea, 86-79, in their semi-final tussle to clinch a spot in the World Cup in Spain next year. They also advance to face tournament favorites Iran in the championship game.

FIBA Asia 2013: Chinese Taipei vs Saudi Arabia Full Game Replay
Chinese Taipei cruised to an easy 90-67 victory over Saudi Arabia to book its second straight win in the FIBA Asia Championship on Friday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Cheng-Ju Lu led Chinese Taipei with 20 points, while naturalized center Quincy Davis added 14 points and 10 rebounds. The Taiwanese jumped the gun on Saudi Arabia, running out to a 31-14 lead in the first quarter. The Saudis made some headway in the third period, cutting the deficit to just eight points, 48-40, after scoring the first six points of the half. But Chinese Taipei flexed its muscles, going on a 27-6 run to end the period with a 19-point lead, 65-46.

Gilas coach Chot Reyes submit a 24-man roster for FIBA Asia Championships
Gilas Pilipinas coach Chot Reyes has until July 12 to decide whom to name in the national team’s 12-man lineup for the FIBA-Asia Championships here on Aug. 1-11.
The deadline to submit a 24-man roster fell yesterday with Reyes listing Marcus Douthit, Jimmy Alapag, Jayson Castro, L. A. Tenorio, Ranidel de Ocampo, Larry Fonacier, Gabe Norwood, Gary David, Marc Pingris, JuneMar Fajardo, Jeff Chan, Japeth Aguilar, Beau Belga, Sonny Thoss, Greg Slaughter, Garvo Lanete, Jake Pascual, Ronald Pascual, R. R. Garcia, Matt Ganuelas, Kevin Alas, Ryan Reyes, Kelly Williams and Jared Dillinger.

Philippines almost ready to host FIBA Asia Championship in August
The Philippines has been pronounced ready for the hosting of the FIBA Asia championship a little less than three months before the games begin on August 1.
Samahang Basketbol Ng Pilipinas deputy executive director Bernie Atienza announced in last Friday’s SCOOP Sa Kamayan session that his association headed by president Manuel V. Pangilinan is 90 percent ready to stage the 16-nation tournament that serves as the qualifying for the 2014 FIBA World Cup set in Spain.

FYI: How the FIBA Asia Championship tournament format works
On Thursday, the draw for the FIBA Asia Championship in August was set, with the Philippines choosing to be part of Group A.
The SMART-Gilas Pilipinas national team is bracketed in Group A in the preliminary round, joining Chinese Taipei, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia.

With its privilege to choose its group as host of the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship, the Philippines on Thursday wisely avoided a tough group and was bracketed along with Chinese Taipei, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia in the preliminary round of the tournament.
The country chose to be in Group A after a consultation with SMART-Gilas Pilipinas coach Chot Reyes, who monitored the proceedings from Lithuania.

Gilas Pilipinas to use its privilege as a host in FIBA-Asia draw
THE first step in the bid of Gilas Pilipinas to qualify for next year’s World Basketball Championship takes place on Thursday when the 16-team draw for the groupings of the Fiba-Asia Men’s Championship is held at the Centennial Hall of the Manila Hotel.
As host, the Philippines is expected to make full use of its privilege of picking 13th in the draw, which means the first 12 slots will already be filled by the time Gilas chooses the best group to join.

FIBA Asia reschedules Champions Cup Finals due to security situation in Lebanon
The finals of the FIBA Asia Champions Cup has been postponed because of the worsening security situation in Beirut, Lebanon.
FIBA Asia confirmed the development in a news item on its website. Al Riyadi Beirut of Lebanon and Mahram of Iran had been scheduled to play in the final match. “FIBA Asia will take a decision on holding the Final Game of the event very soon,” said the organization’s secretary-general Hagop Khajirian.

Philippines' Chance To Host FIBA Asia Championship Cup Still Alive
The Philippines’ bid to host next year’s FIBA Asia Championship is not yet completely dead, according to Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas executive director Sonny Barrios.
“There’s still a chance,” Barrios said. “We’re still keeping an open mind about the hosting of the FIBA Asia Championship, but we’ve set a time table for this.”
Last week, FIBA Asia awarded the rights to host next year’s championship, which serves as qualifier to the 2014 FIBA World Cup, to Lebanon. This was even though the Philippine contingent pulled out all the stops for its bid, with SBP president Manuel V. Pangilinan leading the presentation.

MVP Upset By FIBA Asia Hosting Decision
Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas president Manuel V. Pangilinan , popularly known as MVP, expressed disappointment over the choice of Lebanon over the Philippines as host of the FIBA Asia Championship next year.
“We’re extremely disappointed with the FIBA Asia executive board decision last night, where the merits and demerits of competing proposals did not seem to have been fully considered and weighed,” Pangilinan said in his message to FIBA secretary-general Patrick Baumann, a copy of which he furnished to InterAksyon.com/InterAKTV.

Lebanon, not Philippines, To Host 2013 FIBA Asia Championship Cup
Lebanon, and not the Philippines, will host the FIBA Asia Men’s Basketball Championship next year.
Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas executive director Sonny Barrios disclosed the news to InterAKTV shortly after the FIBA Asia executive committee informed them that Lebanon was granted the hosting rights for the FIBA Basketball World Cup qualifier.
