Kobe Paras committed to La Salle Green Archers not to UP Maroons

THE guessing game on where Kobe Paras will play his college hoops is over.

This after the 2013 World 3x3 slam dunk champion bared to that he has already committed to joining reigning UAAP champions De La Salle Green Archers when he goes to college two years from now.

After the Green Archers wrapped up Game Three of the Finals against University of Santo Tomas, Paras was spotted in the victory party with La Salle chief backer and business tycoon Danding Cojuangco.

“I’d be loyal kasi si Boss Danding pa 'yung tumutulong sa akin, so I’d be as loyal as possible,” Paras said in an interview with Spin.ph.

“Malamang nga dun na ako. As of now, 'yun na muna siguro masasabi ko. I’m leaning towards that (playing for La Salle),” added the 6-5 high-flyer.

Unless he changes his mind, Paras, currently in third year in high school at La Salle Greenhills, will be making his UAAP debut with the Archers in 2015 with another top recruit - Ben Mbala.

Asked if he doesn’t consider the possibility of playing for the University of the Philippines Maroons, which his father Benjie led to the championship in 1986, the 16-year old cager shook his head.

“Hindi na siguro, andun naman na si kuya. So okay na 'yun, La Salle na lang ako,” he said referring to older brother Andre, who played for the Maroons starting this season.

Paras still has one more year in high school, where he is the star La Salle Greenies (Greenhills). The team currently is at the top of the NCAA juniors standings with 12 wins and four losses.

If plans do not miscarry, Paras will be joining his idol Jeron Teng at the La Salle roster in time for the UAAP season 78 in 2015.

“Idol ko po 'yun kaya excited akong makasama siya sa team,” he said while revealing how he looks up to Ateneo superstar Kiefer Ravena as well.

Paras, meanwhile, bared that he is already giving up his bid to don the national tricolors in the 2014 Fiba world under-17 championships in Dubai in July.

“I will respect na lang the decision of the coach. Hindi rin naman ako deserving kasi sila naman ang talagang lumaban for that,” he said.

“Kasalanan ko din naman kasi pinili ko yung world 3x3 eh. So whatever happens … happens na lang!” added Paras.
