Roach's forecast: Manny Pacquiao to KO Brandon Rios in 6

Boxing trainer Freddie Roach believes Manny Pacquiao's training has gone well and predicted a knockout in six rounds against Brandon Rios.

Roach said Pacquiao’s 10-week preparation will bear fruit on November 24, when the Filipino superstar meets his foe from Lubbock, Texas.

“He’s well-prepared, razor-sharp as when he was still fighting for recognition, well-motivated,” Roach said in a Philboxing report by Eddie Alinea. “We’ll demolish [Rios] inside six rounds.”

“Rios is a tough guy, no doubt about it. But Manny would be tougher, stronger and quicker. Watch him.”

Roach said Pacquiao will be stepping into the boxing ring with a lot of motivation, fueled by his need to prove himself capable of becoming a world champion again.

Pacquiao will be coming off an 11-month layoff since getting dropped by Juan Manuel Marquez last December.

Roach said this explains the length of training the Filipino had to undergo for the Rios fight.

“I’ve never seen Manny train this long and hard in our 12-year partnership,” said the coach. “Well, it’s because he had a long layoff since his last fight that requires an equally long camp.”

Pacquiao’s mentor added that the Filipino fighter has already moved on from his knockout defeat.

“He realizes that if you aren’t able to handle the knockout, you picked the wrong sport… He is totally recovered and is brave as ever in the ring.”

Asked about Pacquiao’s conditioning, Roach said strength coach Gavin Macmillan has been doing a very good job.

Team Pacquiao recently let go of Alex Ariza and was replaced by Macmillan.

“Gavin has done his homework very well. Being a former athlete himself, he knows Manny’s problems and how to solve them,” said Roach. “Gavin’s one of the best things that happened in the camp.”
