Canelo Alvarez defeats Miguel Cotto by unanimous decision (FULL FIGHT REPLAY VIDEO)
Mexico's Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 knockouts) defeated Puerto Rico's Miguel Cotto (40-5, 33 KOs) by unanimous decision Saturday night at Mandalay Bay to claim the WBC middleweight title.
Alvarez, who was more aggressive than usual, was able to dominate most of the rounds with his heavy punches and uppercuts. Cotto, 35, tried to outbox the younger Alvarez, 25, but was often on the short end of exchanges.

Mayweather vs Canelo sets record as richest fight in boxing history
Floyd Mayweather’s win over Mexico’s Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez has been confirmed as the richest fight in boxing history with nearly $150 million in pay-per-view revenues, US cable network Showtime said Thursday.
The revenues for Saturday’s unified super welterweight championship in Las Veges surpassed the $136 million that was generated by Mayweather’s 2007 showdown with Oscar de la Hoya.

Most 36-year-old fighters wake up one day and, all of a sudden, feel every bit of 36 years old. Mayweather's uniqueness – at least in part – has been the ability to train as hard as he did as a 20-something and see similar results in the ring as a 30-something. Unless his day of age reckoning arrives this weekend, he's still the faster and more skilled fighter and represents a gigantic leap in class over anything Alvarez has been in with. The longer the fight progresses, the more that'll matter and the more the disparity in landed punches will grow. Ultimately, it'll mean an intervention from referee Kenny Bayless, somewhere past the halfway point of round 10.

Juan Manuel Marquez doubts Canelo Alvarez can upset Mayweather
Mexican legend Juan Manuel Marquez doubts Saul “Canelo” Alvarez can succeed where he has failed and hand American champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. the first loss of his professional boxing career.
Marquez was outclassed by Mayweather when they fought in 2009, losing a wide points decision.
The 22-year-old Alvarez is seeking to defeat the American in their September 14 showdown, but “Dinamita” doubts the young Mexican can pull off an upset.

De La Hoya believes Canelo Alvarez will KO Floyd Mayweather
Former world champion and now Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar De La Hoya believes Mexican prodigy Saul “Canelo” Alvarez will not just beat Floyd Mayweather, but knock him out cold as well.
In an interview with Boxing Scene, De La Hoya expressed his confidence that the 22-year-old Alvarez can stop Mayweather, the premier defensive fighter of his generation.
