Provodnikov to fight Manny Pacquiao only for the right price
Russian junior welterweight Ruslan Provodnikov may possibly agree to fight his former sparring partner Manny Pacquiao.
But according to his manager, it will come with a hefty price.
Vadim Kornilov reasoned out to Ring TV that his client will have to sacrifice a lot of things if he agrees with Bob Arum’s proposal to fight the Filipino superstar.
For one, Provodnikov will have to do away with coach Freddie Roach, who has maintained a close working relationship with the fighting congressman.
"In my opinion, Ruslan would fight Manny Pacquiao if he was made an offer he couldn't refuse," said Kornilov.
Kornilov said a hefty payday would mean a lot for Provodnikov and his family in Russia.
“Even though I have said before that I don't want Ruslan to go into any fight without Freddie Roach, Freddie has said himself that if Ruslan was offered a lot of money to fight Manny, it would be hard to say no, because it would mean everything for Ruslan and the future of his family."
But the manager said that until Arum brings to them an acceptable offer, they will go after other prospects.
At the top of their list are Provodnikov’s fellow Top Rank boxers Juan Manuel Marquez and WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley.
Marquez was a former junior welterweight champion before ascending to the welterweight ranks to chase Pacquiao.
Bradley, on the other hand, has already fought and defeated Provodnikov during their welterweight title match last March.
"We are much more interested in all the other great fights out there for us right now, like Marquez and Bradley," said Kornilov.
