Manny Pacquiao attacks Mayweather: "Maraming mga dahilan naman yun"

Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao recently signed a contract extension with Bob Arum’s Top Rank promotion that made an already unlikely fight with Floyd Mayweather even more improbable.

The undefeated Mayweather refuses to do business with Pacquiao as long as he is promoted by Arum, and the extension keeps the Filipino southpaw in the promoter’s fold until 2016, possibly until the end of his career.

“Maraming mga dahilan naman yun eh (He always has an excuse),” Pacquiao told reporters at the launch of “Safe Steps,” a disaster preparedness initiative headed by Prudence Foundation and National Geographic on Thursday at the Mariott Hotel Manila.

“Buti kung kaming dalawa ni Bob ang makikipaglaban, pagtutulungan namin siya sa taas ng ring. Hindi ganoon yun (It’s not like both me and Bob will fight him and gang up on him on top of the ring. It’s not like that).”

The 35-year-old Filipino congressman said that he has never known a boxer that uses a promoter as an excuse not to fight someone.

“First time ko sa buong buhay ko na nag-bo-boxing – more than 20 years na ako sa boxing – first time ko nakakita ng ganyang boksingero na dinadahilan ang promoter (It’s my first time in my entire boxing career – I’ve been in boxing for more than 20 years – it’s the first time I’ve seen a boxer like that uses the promoter as a reason),” he said.

“May promoter naman siya, may promoter ako. Anong ano dun? (He has a promoter, too. I have a promoter. What’s the issue there?)”

Pacquiao also said that he still doesn’t know who his next opponent will be.

“Yung contract ko, na-renew ng two years pero hindi ko pa alam kung sino yung makakalaban ko. Hindi ko pa nakakausap, especially sa next fight ko,” he added.

“But like what I said, the journey will continue.”

“Yung contract ko, na-renew ng two years pero hindi ko pa alam kung sino yung makakalaban ko. Hindi ko pa nakakausap, especially sa next fight ko (My contract was renewed for two years but I don’t know who I’m fighting yet. We haven’t spoken about that, especially about the next fight),” he added.

“But like what I said, the journey will continue.”

Names like Amir Khan, Ruslan Provodnikov and even Juan Manuel Marquez are being thrown around as possible opponents for the Filipino, but he isn’t stressing about whom it will end up being.

“Depende kay Bob Arum yan at depende naman sa negosasyon. Ang part ko is boxer. (That depends on Bob Arum and the negotiations. My part is as a boxer.) My part is to train and to fight in the ring.”
