Brandon Rios fight make or break for Manny Pacquiao

The November 24 bout with Brandon Rios will either signal the resurgence or the end of Manny Pacquiao’s colorful boxing career, according to boxing coach Robert Garcia.

Garcia, who coaches Rios, said they expect Pacquiao to be at his best shape since the Filipino boxer is coming off two straight losses.

“Because [the Rios fight] is a make or break fight for him and if he loses he may retire. That’s why we know he’ll have the best preparation ever. We know Manny is a superstar and he’ll be better than ever,” he told Philboxing’s Ronnie Nathanielsz.

Pacquiao suffered a controversial decision loss to Timothy Bradley in June last year, before getting stopped with a sixth-round knockout in his fourth bout with Juan Manuel Marquez.

He will be making his comeback at The Venetian in Macau opposite Rios, which sees the bout as the biggest in his career.

Garcia said he wants Rios to be thoroughly prepared before he meets the Filipino superstar in the ring.

“[Rios already did an easy sparring session] but nothing like when we start training for Manny,” said the trainer.

Garcia said the boxing styles of Pacquiao and Rios make up for an interesting match.

“I think it's going to be a helluva fight that people will remember for many years,” he said.
