Mayweather Sr.: 'If Pacquiao gets clipped by Rios, it's over'

Boxing trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr., the father of unbeaten American champion Floyd Mayweather, believes Manny Pacquiao will not be able to recover if he is “clipped or knocked down” by Brandon Rios.

Pacquiao will try to end a two-fight losing streak – including a knockout loss at the hands of Juan Manuel Marquez – against Rios this November.

Speaking to Boxing Scene, Mayweather said that while he does not know who Rios is, it is unlikely Pacquiao can bounce back if he loses in their fight.

“I’ll be honest with you, I don’t even know who the hell Rios is,” Mayweather said. “I have never seen Rios or heard of him before. I can’t tell you that I’ve seen him fight before, so I don’t know what kind of fighter he is.”

Brandon Rios fight make or break for Manny Pacquiao

The November 24 bout with Brandon Rios will either signal the resurgence or the end of Manny Pacquiao’s colorful boxing career, according to boxing coach Robert Garcia.

Garcia, who coaches Rios, said they expect Pacquiao to be at his best shape since the Filipino boxer is coming off two straight losses.

“Because [the Rios fight] is a make or break fight for him and if he loses he may retire. That’s why we know he’ll have the best preparation ever. We know Manny is a superstar and he’ll be better than ever,” he told Philboxing’s Ronnie Nathanielsz.
