FEU's Terrence Romeo to haters: Wala akong paki
FAR Eastern University top gun Terrence Romeo has brushed off criticism from haters who have been bashing the leading Most Valuable Player contender from the start of the UAAP season.
Romeo has been at the receiving end of accusations ranging from being too individualistic to deliberately losing a game by bashers who were at it again on Wednesday after the Tamaraws’ lopsided 92-73 loss to five-time defending champion Ateneo.
It was the third loss in four outings for the Tamaraws in the second round following an impressive seven-game sweep of the first round and the heat naturally fell on the flamboyant Romeo, a one-time UAAP juniors MVP and former league Rookie of the Year.
Still, Romeo said he isn’t affected by the criticism.
“Bahala sila mag-isip ng gusto nila, wala akong paki,” he related to Spin.ph as he sat outside the team dugout at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum shortly after the game.
Romeo finished with 19 points and went 7-of-24 from the floor for the Tamaraws (8-3), three days after pouring in a new career-high 30 points in FEU’s dramatic 98-94 double-overtime win over University of the East.
“Sa (next game) bawi na lang. Pero kung 'yun ang gusto nilang isipin bahala sila, opinyon nila yan. Kanya-kanya naman ng opinyon kung saan sila masaya suportahan ko sila,” he added.
But he did admit complacency caused the Tamaraws to lose against the Blue Eagles.
Romeo, who two weeks ago also engaged former Ateneo mainstay Nico Salva in a heated exchange of words over Twitter, noted the Tamaraws were still in a celebratory mode coming off the huge win over the Warriors on Sunday.
“Hindi ko alam, siguro andoon pa 'yung last game namin, 'yung panalo (sa UE) 'di pa kami tapos mag-celebrate kaya relax na relax kami,” he said.
The 21-year old guard cited the short time the team had to prepare for the reigning champions, although he was quick to point out the Tamaraws’ mistakes.
“Actually hindi naman namin inisip na mag-relax eh,” he said. “Natural na lang siguro na mag-relax kami.”
“Kulang na rin siguro `yung time na mag-prepare, pero pareho naman kami (ng Ateneo) na naglaro noon (Sunday) pero hindi naman reason 'yun,” he added.
