After SEA Games gold, La Salle's Almond Vosotros targets PBA

Former De La Salle University standout Almond Vosotros believes his performance in the 28th Southeast Asian Games last June went a long way towards boosting his stock ahead of the 2015 PBA Rookie Draft.

Vosotros was part of the Gilas Cadets team that won gold, beating Indonesia in a competitive final, and wowed fans with his impressive outside shooting.
His best game came against Thailand in the semifinal, as he drained six of 11 three-pointers for 18 points, and kept the Gilas Cadets in the game with his timely bombs from beyond the arc. They won the game, 80-75, to advance to the gold medal game.

In all, Vosotros averaged 14 points per game – second among all Filipinos – while shooting 41% from the three-point area.

"Iba 'yung feeling kapag naglalaro ka para sa bayan," Vosotros told reporters last Monday during the 2015 Draft Suite presented by SLAM Magazine and Under Armour. "We know na 'yung buong bayan natin, nanonood at sumusuporta."

"Siguro, 'yun 'yung nakatulong sa akin, para tumaas ang value ko as a player," he added.

Vosotros felt he was able to prove that he can play at a high level in international competition, but insisted that he is not yet satisfied with what he achieved in the SEA Games.

"Hindi ko pa rin nararating 'yung goal ko na makarating sa PBA," he pointed out.

Vosotros, who won a championship with La Salle in UAAP Season 76, brings tremendous shooting skill to whichever team will draft him. Although short for two-guard, Vosotros has virtually unlimited range and will not hesitate to pull the trigger.

"'Yung shooting skills ko, 'yun talaga ang dine-develop ko since matagal na," he said, "And sana ma-develop ko pa rin pag nasa pro na ako."

But Vosotros stressed that he is also ready to play point guard if needed, something he did for the Green Archers in Season 77 when Thomas Torres suffered an injury.

"Ready naman ako to play any role," Vosotros said. "1 or 2, kung ano mas makakatulong sa team na magpi-pick sa akin."
