ABS-CBN Sports on Monday unveiled the schedule of the first round of the UAAP Season 78 men's basketball tournament, along with the UAAP Cheer Dance Competition.

The UAAP Cheer Dance Competition will be held on October 3 at the Mall of Asia Arena, ahead of the first round showdown between traditional rivals Ateneo de Manila University and De La Salle University, which is scheduled for October 4, also at the MOA Arena.

Defending champions National University Bulldogs open their title-retention campaign on September 6 against La Salle at the MOA Arena, while last season's runners-up, Far Eastern University, take on Ateneo on the same day.

The season formally opens on September 5, Saturday, at the Araneta Coliseum, with hosts University of the Philippines tackling University of the East in the first game of the season, followed by the showdown between Adamson University and University of Santo Tomas.
