Marc Pingris to Calvin Abueva: "Sino ka para katakutan?"

SAN Mig Coffee forward Marc Pingris on Tuesday waded into the war of words between Calvin Abueva and James Yap over their physical skirmishes in Game Two of their best-of-five semifinals series in the PBA Commissioner's Cup, warning the Alaska rookie to brace for all-out war in Game Three on May 8.

Leaping to the defense of hobbled teammate Yap who he felt was at the receiving end of some 'cheap shots' from the physical Alaska rookie sensation, Pingris said he and the entire San Mig team have no reason to fear 'The Beast.'

"Parating mo sa kanya 'to: tignan natin kung sino ang physical next game," an infuriated Pingris told Spin.ph. "Abueva, sino ka para katakutan ko?"

Yap, battling a back problem that had limited his minutes in the playoffs, had hit out at Abueva for what he felt were "dirty plays" by the rookie in Game Two. He also called out the Alaska starter for "flopping."

“Okay lang ang physical, walang problema dun, pero `yung physical niya (Abueva) medyo di na tama. Tinira niya ako, siniko niya likod ko as in sapul ako sa likod,” said the two-time league MVP.

Abueva, however, told Spin.ph on Monday that he was merely raising his level of play in the playoffs, suggesting that Yap is better off taking up another sport if he can't handle the physicality.

“Lahat naman ng laro physical, hindi ba? Kung isa sa amin ayaw masaktan, eh di mag-chess na lang siya.”

The Alaska rookie added: "Next game mas mag-expect pa sila na magiging physical ang laro, mas pahihirapan ko pa si James (Yap).”

Abueva's warning, however, has drawn an angry reaction from Pingris, who accused the rookie of deliberately hurting Yap in Game Two.

"Sinaktan nya sa likod si James, sadya yun," Pingris said.

Pingris said Abueva will get what he has been asking for when the series resumes at the Big Dome on May 8.

"Parating niyo sa kanya to: next game physical talaga wala nang bukas 'to," he fumed. "Sino sya para katakutan ko, makikita mo (Abueva) kung sino si Mark Pingris (sa) next game.

"Next game tignan niyo na lang," he added.
